Eleanor Erskine

Eleanor H Erskine received a BFA in Painting/ Printmaking from Kansas City Art Institute and an MFA in Printmaking from Cranbook Academy of Art. She has held professorships at Kansas City Art Institute and the Maine College of Art. She is currently Associate Professor of Art Portland State University, Portland, Oregon

One of Eleanor’s major focus’ over the course of the past ten years is taking a serious look at how a variety of contemporary artists integrate their personal work to public culture and how cultural society provides influence, resources and research for the making of their artist’s works.

Eleanor in 1991 co-chaired “Tributaries” at the Kansas City Art Institute for SGC, and in October 2001 Chaired “Crossing Boundaries: East-West Symposium in Print Art’ This international conference was hosted by Portland State University.  It was designed to clearly site contemporary print art related issues as a national an international collaboration which included collaborating with seven significant printmaking and top educational institutions in the Great Northwest.

Her work is in significant private and public collections across the United States, Australia, Canada, Korea, and Japan.  Her most recent exhibitions 2008 include “Lover’s at 30” Nelson Atkins Museum, and “The Butterfly Effect: A Visionary Gesture” PICA Portland Institute of Contemporary Art.
