Jill Fitterer
Assistant Professor of Printmaking, Jill Fitterer has directed the printmaking program at Boise State University since 2005. A graduate of the Master of Fine Arts Program at California State University Long Beach, Fitterer received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Sonoma State University in 2001.
When asked what inspires her work, she responded, “My work originates upstream at the confluence of the elemental, lived experience and dreams. Undercurrents carry an attraction to the dark side of living, betrayal and brushes with death. Surface currents reflect interests in taxidermy, the transcendent and familiars. Downstream uncharted waters await.”
This summary description of Jill’s influences was published as a part of her participation with The Deal Boise, Boise Arts Trading Cards. Information on this project can be found at www.thedealboise.com It might be of interest to note that she assisted her “Collaborative Partner,” Lillie Mae Cane, in the printing of Ms. Cane’s trading card. While not an official participant, Ms. Cane, a renegade banjo player from Southern Ohio, has infiltrated the deck.
In July 2007, Fitterer taught a course in etching at Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence, Italy. Her solo exhibition, Meditations On An Open Book, premiered at the school’s gallery. In the fall of 2007, she presented a curatorial project at the IMPACT 5, International printmaking conference held in Tallinn, Estonia. Entitled, Slow Food: Hand Printing in the Digital Age featured a select group of North American print artists, whose common links are bicycle commuting, cooking and hand printing. She can be spotted bicycling and printing in Boise, Idaho.
