Statement:
The images I create address issues concerning race, beauty standards, sexuality and identity. I openly explore these topics utilizing imagery found in popular culture. I use humorous narratives as a device for engaging the viewer. My goal as an artist is to continue making work about living in contemporary society. I acknowledge the past, ponder the future, but want to talk about what is happening here and now. Initially, my images appear to be addressing issues solely from the perspective of a black woman for black women. Closer examination reveals that the issues addressed we all share despite our different ethnic backgrounds, gender or orientation. These ideas manifest in the form of prints or paintings.
